Why Jagadevpet is Jainapeta?
Jainapet is a village near the Jagityal on the route to Dharmaram. Jainapet is a name in vogue. Its registered name is Jagadevapet. It is the native of my maternal Grand father sri. Kudala Rajanna.on 4th march, 2018, i travelled through this route. On knowing my journey, my Brother-in-law sri. Naveen told me that Jainapeta and Jagadevapet is one and same.
It is a question why Jagadevapet has got the name of Jainapet? We need to go back to medieval period to know it. On my search in google, nothing has been written on Jainapeta. I am annoyed about it and started writing this note.
Jaggadeva, a polavasa king has established this village. Probably it may be a city in medieval period. He shifted his capital from polavasa to Jagadevapet.
Polavasa kings were staunch Jains. They established Jain temple at polavasa. They donated for padmakshi temple also. These are the activities covered in the inscriptions and art& architecture. Many more activities would have done for Jains.
Jagadeva and his descendants also followed jainism. Over a period many Jains would have lived there even after the collapse of polavasa dynasty. A few traces of habits of Jains among yellapu families suggest that Jainism was prevalent in Jagadevapet and it got the name of Jainapeta, an abode of Jains.
Someone needs to visit that village and verify the archaeological evidences.
