Earlier i wrote an article on Russian names and surnames. A few hundred Russians read it.
Recently, i learnt the Russian numbers in youtube and astonished. Most of the Russian numbers are related to Sanskrit. Here is my analysis:
No. Russian Sanskrit
1 – Odin( Adin) – Adi – first
2 – Dwa – dwi – two
3 – tri – tri- three
4- chetyre – Chatur -four
5 – pyat – pancha
6. Shest – shasti
7. Sem – saptam
8. Vosem –
9. Devyat- (Nava) devi
10. Desyat – Dasha
This indicates that most of the numbers of Russian are derrived from Sanskrit.
The basic structure of double digit numbers are also in the Indian system with a little variation in Russian for the numbers between 11 – 19.
11 is written as Odin + Nadtstat. You are aware that in Indian numerals it is written as Nadtstat + Odin.
Further, 20 to 80 is written as follows;
20- Dwa +dtsat
30- tri +dtsat
40- sorok
50- pyat + desyat
60- shest + desyat
70- sem+ desyat
80 – Vosem +desyat
90 and hundred are also written as
90- devya nosto
100 – sto – shata
Hence, it is very clear from the analysis that the Russian numbers and their structures are based on Indian numerals system.
